I can’t believe it’s August already! School is just around the corner and just like when I was a little kid I get excited about buying school supplies. However, I get most excited about buying my text books. Why would anyone love spending $500+ on a bunch of books?! My feeling is it solidifies the fact that school is starting and I love it! I feel absolutely nerdy saying that, but at the same time I feel fortunate to actually be excited about school. I’ve met many people growing up and recently that cannot stand it (or reading for that matter!!!). I honestly can’t understand not wanting to learn something new. There are SO many things in this world to see and do. I wish there was a career out there where I could just learn something, master it, and move on to the next thing. There’s never enough time!
Now that my major is graphic design and web development, I have books that are really interesting. I have gone to the University of Minnesota to chase a mathematics degree and as much as I love books and learning new things, reading about doing math is really boring. I am going to school for things I have been doing for fun — my hobbies. Since I have switched to a community college, my degree is only two years and I have less generals. I have the option to continue at a college, but we’ll see what happens. All my classes this semester are 100% related to my degree. You have no idea how much of a relief that is. Being as late in the game as I am, I am glad I will feel like I am taking real steps toward a career. Four-year schools are not for everyone, and I am definitely one of those people.
Look at all those books!!! Two on color, one on typography, and the rest developing my abilities in styling and building sites. I can’t wait to sit in a class room and be engaged and excited to learn again. Its been a long time and this is the best time in my life to start.
Hope everyone had a great weekend, and if you are attending school this semester, hope you’re as excited as I am!
